    • How it Works

Dexter empowers students with powerful mental frameworks and relevant skills to thrive in the knowledge age.

Students follow a self paced, mastery based curriculum in a modern learning environment. Their path is filled with hands on projects and activities that make learning meaningful, active and fun.

In this healthy learning environment, students challenge who can understand what, and at what age.

    • Dexter Curriculum

The Dexter curriculum is not about the memorization of isolated facts or taking standardized tests and instead focuses on an interdisciplinary curriculum that develops powerful mental frameworks and a love of learning. This approach leads to an increase in both depth and breadth where learners tackle areas of human knowledge previously thought out of reach for young learners. Each week, students meet with their learning coach to set weekly expectations and goals.

    • Literacy and Writing

Dexter students read and write significantly more than the average student. Each student has a curated reading list, writes daily notebooks documenting their activities and completes curriculum cards designed to develop true literacy.

      Scientific Thinking

Mathematics and science form the backbone of a set of mental frameworks that allow students to think powerfully about reality. From basic numeracy to living systems, students are prepared for a rapidly changing world.

Peer to peer communication plays a pivotal role in the Dexter experience. Students learn how to communicate effectively through regular group projects, formal presentations and communication specific curriculum cards.

Physical and emotional well-being are necessary perquisites to supercharged learning. Dexter students are encouraged to achieve and maintain overall well-being through regular exercise, proper nutrition and mental management cards.

      Technical Skills

From video production to computer programming, students develop relevant skills that they actively use to provide value to the local community through Dexter facilitated internships, challenge cards and long form projects.

      Global Citizenship

Students are empowered with a global perspective of the long arc of human history, with an emphasis on western values. This historical context is embedded throughout the curriculum by bringing back the humanity to all subjects (i.e. what is the social, emotional, cultural, historical story of calculus?) .

    • “The best way to teach people critical thinking is to teach them to write… If you can think, speak and write, you are absolutely deadly. Nothing can get in your way… If you can formulate your arguments coherently, make a presentation, if you can speak to people, if you can lay out a proposal then you have influence... that’s what you’re at university for. Teach people to be articulate because that’s the most dangerous thing you can possibly be. Here’s your sword… learn how to use it.”

    • How Tuition Works

Tuition works through a simple monthly membership that involves no contracts or long term commitments.

A flat monthly membership fee grants access to the physical campus during normal hours (Mon. - Sat. from 8am to 6pm), unlimited online access to curriculum, a dedicated learning coach (full-time members), monthly materials stipend (full-time members) and additional membership benefits.

The community pass is $195 per month and the full-time program is $495 per month.

    • FAQ

      What are the age requirements?
Students ages 8+ are welcomed to apply for a part-time community pass and students ages 8-15 for the full-time program.
What kind of memberships are there?
A part-time community pass to supplement traditional or government schooling and a full-time program that functions as a private school.
      What does the curriculum cover?
The Dexter curriculum covers all of the core areas expected at a traditional school, while also preparing students with the skills and mental models needed to participate in the knowledge age. Due to the self paced nature of the curriculum, students significantly increase both breadth and depth of a traditional curriculum.
How safe is the Dexter campus?
Safety is our first and foremost responsibility. Dexter staff members undergo background checks, CPR certification and have completed a Dexter approved training course to handle emergency scenarios (fire, active shooter, etc.). Dexter premises are under 24/7 video and audio monitoring.
How is Dexter different than a traditional school?
At Dexter, students are active participants versus passive observers. The curriculum is mastery based, meaning that the student must display mastery before moving on. This self paced curriculum leads to drastically accelerated academic progress and intellectual growth. At Dexter, time is the variable and mastery is constant. Students also receive significantly more one on one time through peer mentoring and a dedicated learning coach.
      Is Dexter accredited?
Accreditation is optional for private schools in the state of Texas, but we're on a roadmap towards international accreditation. This is secondary to our members developing competencies, skills, certifications, work experience, portfolios, academic recognitions and getting into the world's best universities.
What's the member to teacher ratio?
The Dexter learning environment thrives and excels with a 30:1 staff to student ratio. Students continuously reinforce their skills and knowledge through the active encouragement of peer to peer teaching. Additionally, our modern learning environment breaks the boundaries of traditional school norms. At Dexter students 'learn to fish versus being fed fish all day', allowing students much more autonomy and personal responsibility.
      Do members take standardized tests?
Our full-time learners take the MAP assessment on a quarterly basis for benchmarking, along with the PSAT and SAT. These results are secondary to the goals of the core curriculum and serve to insure optimal college entrance. Students are also expected and encouraged to take AP exams to earn college credit.
      Do I receive a diploma?
Of course! As a private school we define our high school graduation requirements in accordance to the official state of Texas graduation guidelines. Full-time students have the ability to export a standardized transcript (for transfer or college entrance purposes).

    • Solving the 2 Sigma Problem

In 1984, Benjamin Bloom, published a landmark study demonstrating that mastery learning + one-to-one instruction led to an improvement in student performance by two standard deviations. In other words, the average learner using this new method performed better than 98% of the students in a traditional instruction setting.
